From the first glance almost all tasks listed there seem impossible (at least to me), but if you read further into the topic you`ll see participants offering solutions to pretty much all of them. Mystery of Dorge-Shaan Light Orbs - Thanks to Merch Gwyar the mystery of Dorge-Shaan Lightbulbs (or Light Orbs) was solved for me. Somehow I never realized I could go and fix those light bulbs without having 87 Crafting. Apparently the only requirement is 52 Firemaking and light bulbs (light orbs) can be bought cheaply on the GE. I could see a possibility for a clan game there too: everybody gets 2-3 light bulbs and who places them first - wins.

Play the Game - I usually get the same question from players when I farm while wearing the Farming cape: "How long did it take?", meaning "Which way did you power train this skill to 99?" In this regard my answer "3.5 years" is clearly not the answer they expect to hear and, I am afraid, they see me as being either arrogant or stupid. The notion of getting achievement capes without power training is so alien to Runescape population, that I hardly get any other reaction. And it is sad. Will there ever be a shift in Runescape community, so more players would actually play the game instead of working inside it? Against all odds, I hope so.

Mining with an Addy pickaxe - Steve is writing about Summoning skill being underutilized by players. Very true. Only a few familiars got generally accepted and used by many players very often, namely Bunyip, Spirit Terrorbird and maybe also War Tortoise. All the others are being mostly ignored despite their obvious usefulness. How come people fighting in Chaos Tunnels and not having any combat creatures alongside? Why you can rarely see a hunter with a Polar Bear chasing chinchompas into the boxes? Why no beavers at Catherby yews grove? Why is it so? Is remebering to bring a useful pouch too much of a hastle? Or the players simply don`t know what their familiars can do?

The Endgame - This post from Zybez`s blog got me thinking. Indeed, wouldn`t it be nice to have some non-exp related goals past 99? In this case getting 99 in a skill wouldn`t be the end of it, but only an enabler for completing these extra tasks and activities. Something like achievement diaries, but much longer, harder, constantly updated with new tasks and possibly without any rewards associated with the tasks completion. What do you think?

Spontaneous Runescape Events - Yet another wonderful post from Merch Gwyar, this time about spontaneous Runescape events and flash mobs. I love them too. While clan and fan site organized events are more grandeur, these little street performances are truly awesome. The don`t fill me with awe, but I just can`t stop grinning happily after I witness one of those.

Maxing out Runescape Skills? - Food for thought. How many people do you know who are going to 200M mark in a skill? I know two. And they seem like nice people, definitely sane people :-) But for me, there is something deeply unnatural, I`d even say alien, in such goals. This 200M mark seems so artificial and at the same time so "grindish", if you know what I mean. There is simply no way to get so much experience points by playing the game. One have to grind his/her way through. Even 99s with their 13M are usually products of grinding, but at least it is possible to get the capes and still be in playing mode. But 200M - no way.

Should we pot, eat, pray or die "honorably"? - New article at Tip.it about using food, potions and prayers in PvP minigames. Should we do so, or should we not? Honestly, I don`t think there is much to discuss there. Of course, we should use whatever skills and supplies we could furnish in the game, regardless whether it is during skilling, player vs monster or player vs player activities. IMHO, "honor pking" is an ugly phenomena.

Short Stealing Creations Minigame - Apparently 20 min is not the only game ending condition in Stealing Creations! It can be completed in 15 minutes (and possibly even faster). The game also ends when all resources are picked up! It never happens in the official Stealing Creations worlds, but it may very well happen in a "non-combat" private game. Thanks to Jax for pointing it out.

Lack of IA behind monsters in Runescape - An article about lack of difficult monsters in Runescape. Almost every boss monster can be quite safely soloed if you know how and have sufficient stats and equipment. The only exception being the Corporeal beast, which is not smarter but simply too powerful to solo.

Adult MMO players are fit – physically if not mentally - Finally, I stumbled upon a study that argues against a myth about adult MMO players all being nerdy "coach potatoes". I kind of suspected it all along, as not a single adult player I personally know would fit into a profile of "coach potato". But now I have an independent study to back it up. EverQuest was used to conduct the study upon, but I am sure similar Runescape study would yield the same results.

Doing Treasure Trails without Fear - Very good article (or should I say guide?) about doing treasure trails (clues) in Runescape. If you haven`t done much "treasure trailing" and would like some advice, definitely take a look. Note though, that the guide is not a list of shortcuts and cheat-codes, instead, it will help you to actually play this minigame the way it was designed to be played.

Junk Trades and Runescape Economy - An article about junk trades at Zybez. The author speaks against junk trades and asks other players to boycott them. I actually agree with it - junk trades are a plaque and better be avoided. However, I don`t believe that this plaque can be dealt with by players alone. Jagex has to step in, if this to be fixed. Unfortunately, there are still ways to generate a lot of junk quickly. I mean you can get 1-2 millions of junk per hour. Until this is possible, the problem will remain and junk trading will continue to make sense for many players. The other way, of course, is to make the Grand Exchange more agile and responsive to price movements, but there are problems there too (like price manipulation). Maybe there are other ways, I don`t know (do you?). Hopefully, Jagex is or will be looking into this problem, we`ll see. Meanwhile, I can only join the author`s suggestion to boycott junk trades in Runescape on personal level. Believe me, it is not that hard to do.

A skiller, a pker and a merchanter walk into a bar… - G`s musings about Runescape offering different styles of play to the players. How very true! It is indeed one of the big success factors of Runescape - people with very diverse personalities and different priorities are able to prosper in Gielinor. Runescape does not force players to follow the same (limited) set of tracks as many other games do.

January 2009 in Runescape - Review of January updates from TruthScape. I feel a bit uneasy about the past month as well as overall Jagex`s strategy for 2009. I mean, yes, fixing and polishing existing content is a good thing. But it does awfully look like Jagex has limited amount of effort they put into Runescape considerably. Maybe it`s just me, but behind all these "clean and polish the game" statements I perceive resources re-allocation. Yeap, less people working on Runescape, more people trying to get MechScape out of the door. IMHO, of course, but a strong one, if you know what I mean.

Runescape Population - Configurable graph of Runescape Population. You can adjust time scale as well as choose between individual servers or look at the global picture. Also trend line can be placed on the graph. I played with it for a while. Interestingly enough, if you look at 1 year worth of data, the trend is actually going down. Ouch.

Advertising Runescape Clans inside the game - I always knew that I am not allowed to advertise Runewise or Runescape Reader`s Digest inside the game, despite the fact that both sites does not have any RWT ads, cheats or any other bad stuff (in fact, Runewise does not have ads at all). I accepted it, at least everyone was getting the same treatment from Jagex. But not anymore! Apparently a privileged set of Runescape clans (distinguished by admission to the hidden forum for Runescape clan leaders) is allowed to advertise their web sites inside the game. What a joke.

Jagex prevents a school shooting - Interesting topic I just found on MechScape World forum about Jagex reporting school shooting threats made inside the game and on Runescape forum to the US authorities thus preventing several incidents. The topic talks about two such cases, I would guess, there could be more. In any case, it is good that Jagex takes this kind of stuff seriously. Who knows, how real those threats were, but with all probability Jagex saved some kids lives right there.

Fun vs Grind in Runescape - Good article on Zybez about separation between having fun and getting exp in Runescape. The author complains that most interesting minigames in Runescape doesn`t give you enough experience (if any), so in order to advance in the game one simply have to grind it through. In general, it is true, though there is always an option to diversify your activities thus avoiding a grinding trap. But that`s beside the point. As far as minigames go, most of them, indeed, do not offer enough experience or rewards to substitute regular skilling activities, though, author forgot to mention notable exceptions such as Pest Control, Pyramid Plundering and Brimhaven Agility Arena (yes, it is a minigame too). Also I completely disagree with aithor`s assessment of Stealing Creations minigame. In my opinion Stealing Creations is great for skillers and actually confirms a new trend in Jagex`s strategy for minigames. The trend which I personally like very much. Look at the latest minigames such as Stealing Creations, Fist of Guthix and Great Orb Project. What connects them is the fact that by playing these fun games you obtain items which allow to advance in a particular skill much faster (but for a limited amount of time). So now, instead of grinding your way through, players have an option to switch between minigames and skilling activities without a risk of burning themselves out in any of them. I think it is just great and hope that Jagex will continue this trend.

No appeals from the Green Zone and Junk Trades in Runescape - Apparently you can`t appeal offenses if you are still in the Green Zone. Another thing Tim touches upon in his post is so called "junk trades", when players work around the trade limit by adding "junk" (such as willow logs, tiaras, granite etc.) to the trades. I know many players use this method - I don`t. I don`t think it is right. The whole thing literally screams: "there is a flaw in the game and there is an exploit of this flaw". It is so artificial - it just can`t be right. What do you think?

God Wars Crasher - Tim is writing about "parasitism" at God Wars (General Graardor`s room in this case). I`ve seen people using similar tactic at Blue Dragons (ranging one dragon from a safe spot till half health and then switching to another). I my opinion, it is one of the sickest ways to play the game. It is really a shame, there are people who would use this tactic.

Runescape is forgiving - Interesting point is raised in this article about Runescape being very forgiving for players mistakes. Meaning "game related" mistakes, not "offenses". Indeed, there is no permanent failure anywhere in the game, players always get another chance to complete quests or battle monsters. The worst that can happen is loss of replaceable equipment - stats and storyline always remain unchanged and undamaged. And I agree, it is a very nice and appealing feature.

Is Pking back in Runescape? - Take a look at this article that questions necessity of giving to much attention and resources to restoring pking in Runescape. While I know that clans are rejoicing PvP worlds, it looks like that vast majority of the players is simply ignoring them. And you can see it not only in number of players using these worlds, but also in a fact that prices for PvP supplies (such as blood runes) are down to the bottom limits. So what is it? Too many pkers left a year ago and never returned? Or were there simply not that many pkers to start with?

Living Legend. Runescape Classic. - Good read about Runescape Classic and its features. It is fascinating how far behind Runescape 2 it seems now, like a stone age or something. Also see how many things were tried and then removed or abundant. Tailoring, Fatigue, Dueling, Cabbage Censor, Firemaking Exp calculator etc. I wonder how will Runescape 2 will be viewed by players in 2012...

The forgotten places in Runescape - Great new article in R!Informer about places in Runescape world which are rarely visited by players and about a joy of being an explorer. After all the game is not just about skilling, fighting and money making. It is also about role-playing and exploration. Try it. One day set aside skilling, turn off the chat, turn on the surrounding sound and full screen mode and simply walk the world, see and listen, walk into houses you never entered before, travel places you ignored for so long, climb mountains and cross marshes - just for a little bit really live in that world.

The best way to train on Runescape - While I myself guilty in giving training advice to other players, I cannot disagree with Steve here: the best way to train on Runescape is the one you like. Not the fastest way, not the cheapest way, but the one you actually enjoy. And if there are no such ways to train a skill, maybe you should not train that skill at all, unless there are other reasons driving you.

Should merchants be worried by Jagex dealing with marketplace ma - Here is an official message from Jagex regarding merchanting, speculation and market price manipulation. While I am curious how do they plan to prevent market price manipulation, I am also relieved to see that Jagexs position toward people merchanting on the GE is positive. It is official now. Merchants are not vultures after all - they do provide liquidity to the Runescape market.

Safe Spots in Runescape - New article in Tip.it Times about HD update bringing not only new graphics, but also changing safe spots locations all over Runescape. I noticed it too, though I am not using safe spots that often anymore. The one I noticed was in Taverly dungeon (the room with Black Demons). It used to be a reliable safe spot, now it is "semi-safe". I am still able to cannon there, but it takes more effort in keeping it going smoothly. Actually, more fun! One other thing I though about in regards of the safe spots is that I am rarely using them now. Higher combat level and ability to use healing gear like Guthans and Saradomin Godsword made safe spots rather redundant to me. It is now much faster to engage monsters in hand-to-hand combat than ranging them from a corner or behind some rock formations. Does it happen to you too? Higher combat means less safe spotting all the way down to no safe spotting all together?

How to find Penguins and Shooting Stars in Runescape - Nalyd posted a guide about finding Shooting Stars in Runescape. The Starchasers clan chat indeed works very well. I have been in the chat for about an hours and was lead to two stars in two different worlds. If you have troubles finding shooting stars, give it a try. As for penguins hide and seek, there is a clan chat for it too. The chat owner name is riods2525. Note also that you must be in world 60 if you want to use this method, everybody is in that world. After about 20 minutes in the chat I was able to locate 4 penguins without much effort. Again, if you want to be able to find all 10 penguins quickly, check it out.

Hard Life of Pures and Pure Skillers in Runescape - Hard Life of Pures and Pure Skillers in Runescape narrated by Topper. The topic fascinates me, but I cannot even imagine myself going through such harsh and artificial training. Though an idea of restrained skilling is not that foreign to me. For instance, I forbid myself to buy any kind of seeds to speed up my Farming skill and therefore I am getting experience in my favorite skill very very slowly.

What can we learn in Runescape? - Good article from Bluebrisingr in R!Informer about real life skills we may learn in Runescape. In my opinion, Runescape is not the best option to learn anything - after all it is just a game. But it may help with certain social aspects. It provides a relatively "safe" environment for communication with other people and allows children to hone their leadership skills. I remember reading somewhere that about 20% of children who play in MMORPGs tried to be a clan leader in one of the games at least once and that is quite a number.

Why do you do quests in Runescape? - Well, I personally like them (except for Mourning Ends Part 2 and Rat Catchers, of course). I find most of the quests pretty funny and entertaining and I am doing them without following any guides unless I am getting stuck completely. But at the same time I know that many people dislike quests and do them only when they absolutely have to, for instance, to unlock a new skill or area on the map. And along the way they complain about "stupid Jagex making yet another dumb go-fetch-me-stuff quest". Kind of lame type of remark, dont you think? In this regard I was glad to see different attitude about the same issue from Topper (and I hope many other players like him). Here is the direct quote: "Doing all the parts that I don’t really enjoy makes the fun parts of the game… more fun." Do I need to add anything else? I dont think so.

So... How does it feel to be muted in Runescape? - yet another great post from G about his experiences of being muted in Runescape for 24 hours. Quite a story. I was never muted myself, so it is hard for me to imagine how does it feel, but in my opinion "permanent mute" should be excluded from the list of punishments for good. It is not a punishment that leads to redemption - it is simply an act of cruelty and nothing else.

Facing Fears - Do we have to face our fears in Runescape? Actually, I dont think so. It is just a game after all. If some game aspect is unpleasant or uncomfortable, why suffer? However, there are cases when we want to play some role (whatever it is - PKer, Stacker, GWD soloer, you name it), but we are afraid of loosing items, afraid of death, or just afraid. In such cases I think we should face and overcome our fears. Otherwise unfulfilled desires may spoil the game all together. Fortunately, Runescape provides ways to train and experiment in safe environment and gradually build confidence while doing so. For instance, take a look at Toppers story about becoming a pker.

It is fascinating how huge is the minigames variety. I dont know anyone who would say that he/she does not like all of them. There are always at least one minigame that suites persons personality and style of play. It is also fascinating how different are peoples preferences. Ask ten random players about their favorite minigame and you will get 8-9 different answers!

Runescape HD. First impressions. - As you can imaging Runescape HD release stirred the Runescape community a bit :-) In fact, more than introduction of Summoning and Hunter skills, as far as I can remember. But, of course, not as much as revolutionary Nov-Dec 2007 updates. But, anyway... People are talking about it a great deal now. Mostly with awe. And rightly so. However, not everything is perfect. There are issues. In my opinion there are issues beyond something simple bug fixing can handle (see my previous post about the full screen mode). And it is not just my opinion, I see quite a few "balanced" reviews. One of them I want to point you to today is Anubis comprehensive report. Good reading.

Nothing personal, just business... - Somewhat saddening article with multiple quotes from Jagex CEO Geoff Iddison. Why saddening? “We have got an infrastructure behind Runescape which is the real silver of the Jagex, the value of the company,” said Iddison. “It is not the game, the game is going to come and go,” he said. I know, I am being childish. Runescape is not going to last forever, in fact, it will probably be totally gone in 5-8 years, but it saddens me to hear such uncaring words from Jagex anyway.

Another Runescape Money Making Guide - Another money making guide from Steve. This time it is about reselling products after increasing their value. For instance, by making unfinished potions or sacred oil. I have mixed feelings about such activities. While there are indeed decent money makers, what happens is that players are essentially selling their time and experience, which is not good in a long run (at least for skillers). So yeah, if you need a quick buck for some fancy piece of armor and dont really care for your non-combat levels, go for it. Otherwise, I would suggest to find other ways to make money.

I do think that without these improvements Runescape would have very very hard time competing with games like WoW and others. Among other things he reveals expansion plans for Runescape (such as going to China, India and Malaysia) and says that Jagex plans to invest into Runescape during the next 5 years, which is both good and bad news. 5 years is more than I expected, but it still marks a sunset date for the game we love.

Jagex partnering with MMOABC - For a long time I was wondering why Jagex does not offer any kind of partnership or affiliation program for Runescape fan sites. Then I saw this news about Jagex partnering with MMOABC and it suddenly made sense to me. It looks like Jagexs priority is to bring NEW players via/from established MMO (non Runescape!) communities - and that is where the efforts are spent. And what about Runescape fan sites? Well, they do not bring new players to the game, so why care? A pity, though...

Runescape Daily Routine - Marlains post about her daily routine made me think about it. I bet many of us have some kind of routine in Runescape, set of daily chores if you will. Jagex created so many repeatable daily events and minigames, that there is a huge incentive for player to log in EVERY day. I can understand that and motives behind it, but it is also a trap. With number of USEFUL daily chores growing, it takes more and more time to do them all. In a sense, they become another way of grinding - a daily one. Kind if scary. I used to have pretty long routine: Miscellania and farming ran, Jade Vine, pineapples and seaweed in Catherby, buckets with sand in Yanille. It took good half an hour or more to do them all. I am down to Miscellania and farming run now and I do everything else only when I feel like it, so it is not that bad. But it is still a daily 15 minutes routine and, now thinking about it, I would rather not have one at all. So what is my point? Am I saying that daily Runescape routines are bad. No, not really. Just be careful, do not let it become a daily chore for you. Enjoy the game.

How to train Magic in Runescape? - You know it is more to Runescape Magic training than high-alchemy and Camelot teleport. In fact, neither one of these ways is the fastest way up. Those are just relatively cheaper ways with still decent exp per spell. Take a look at this useful research Kitt Fox put together and see if some of the spells there look compelling to you. I found a few there I am going to try.

Should we pay farmers in Runescape? - Neat guide from Tip.it AOW about power farming. Among other things it mathematically proves why it is not worth to pay farmers to look after most of the trees. Good guide, correct formulas. But... One thing is missing: specifically, paying farmers to look after trees and allotments is an essential part of the skill and one of the big factors that makes Farming a fun skill to raise. I get much more satisfaction out of my Farming levels, when I know that every seed I planted is obtained within the game and not bought at GE, when I know that I did everything I could to protect my plants and trees from cold and disease. That is why I still do plant oaks and apple trees (at lvl 95 Farming) and I do pay farmers to look after them whenever I can. And all these nice mathematical formulas mean absolutely nothing. You cant measure fun in GP

Runescape versus Dragonfable - Runescape is usually being compared to WoW and rightly so. Same genre, similar concepts and highly overlapping target audience. But at the same time Runescape population is younger comparing to WoW and overlaps with other online games like Dragonfable. Yes, I think is it is a fair comparison and there is indeed a competition between these two games. I have seen children choosing one over another and it wasnt always Runescape that was chosen.

Can we bring the wilderness and pking back? - Good ideas on how to bring good old pking back into the game. I am not a big fan of pking, but I guess some of you, my dear readers, may want to support this one. However, I personally dont think the wilderness will be made pking free zone ever - Jagex clearly has chosen a way of adding localized minigames instead.

How about Runescape Lottery? - Do you play the Runescape Lottery? Or do you not? Good questions raised by Jax here. Is it worth chasing big drops? Well, I never had a single dragon or GWD drop. The best thing I got from a clue was Zamorak plate, which I sold for 900K. So, no I havent been successful in the Runescape Lottery. But I havent killed a lot of metal dragons either, meaning I havent tried hard enough. Nevertheless, I do think that chasing big drops in Runescape usually pays off and is worthwhile doing, if you like combat and dont mind spending a lot of time at metal dragons, in GWD and other such places. With loot share system fixed, it makes perfect sense to spend more time with likewise minded friends chasing these big ticket items. On the other hand, if you dont enjoy killing that much, there is nothing wrong with making money from skilling and merchanting. I guess it all goes down to personality, what else?..

Powerleveling versus Smartleveling - Another part of Qeltars skills leveling book. And yet another one I personally fully support. The point there is that Runescape is rich enough that players can gain levels reasonably fast while still avoiding grinding and powerleveling. The problem is that a lot of players focus solely on the levels and pick only the fastest (or in many cases not the fastest but commonly accepted) ways to train and stick to these ways refusing to explore and try something new and inventive. Just take summoning for an example. It is just beyond me why there isnt a granite crab alongside most of the fishermen in Catherby...

History of a Cabbage in Runescape - Sorry, I meant "history of the words filter", of course. But, apparently, it is so closely interrelated with cabbages, that one cannot go without another. Suddenly, all those cabbage drop parties in Edgeville, or cults of people collecting cabbages receives a new meaning. Check it out. One thing from the article I disagree about is that the change was introduced because of a "personal preference of Andrew Gower". No way. I am not saying Andrew personally would had liked to leave things as they were, what I am saying is that ANY MMOPRG simply MUST have such filter in place in order to survive, grow and prosper. There is no other way whatsoever.

Hunt for Surok - One incredible story from Merch Gwyar about doing this mini-quest. I did it in one go and without looking into a guide too and it was indeed tough and challenging, but the way she did it is far beyond that. Including the finale. That is what they call "going in flames"!

RWT future: buying, selling and hacking of Runescape Accounts? - Yet another disturbing article. This one is about a shift and adjustments in RWT industry. Good news, RWT does not affect Runescape as much as it used to. Bad news is that it is still there and it is bound to remain there for a foreseeable future. My take on it is that, yes, RWT is still there, but is its influence on the game was reduced so significantly, that regular players can pretty much ignore it. Jagex probably still have issues with stolen credit cards and such, but gameplay of majority of the players, thankfully, is much cleaner now.

Quitting and Friends in Runescape - An article about making and loosing friends in Runescape. The point there that friendship usually lasts as long as the game goes and stops when a player quits. And I think it is true, not only for Runescape, but for other online games and in general for "online" made friends. There are exceptions of course, but those are exceptions. However, I believe that it may change in the future when people start accepting virtual reality as an essential part of their day-to-day life. The borders between real life and virtual life are getting blurred more and more and I see them almost disappear in the future. What do you think? Will we ever come to this?

Why Moparscape servers are popular? - Somewhat disturbing statistics about Moparscape servers popularity. Why do people keep going there despite the risk of being hacked and knowing that it is against Jagex rules? I do not know... It seems to me that there is a certain type of players who would do something like that regardless. I think though that players who are truly enjoying Runescape would never go to Moparscape. But why the Moparscape servers are getting more popular over last two years? This time I think the answer is simple: Runescape is growing, more people taste it and therefore more players (in volume, not in persentage!) look for Moparscape.

Vinesweeper Minigame and falling sky, again... - Passionate and angry article from Qeltar about why Vinesweeper minigame did NOT de-evaluate Farming skill. Basically, I agree with the author. Runescape is evolving and there is no point in complaining about new players raising old skills in new ways. It is just plain stupid. Plus, I personally do not see why Vinesweeper is presumably ruining anything. It is a pleasant, smart (comparing to many others), relaxing game. Not overpowered, but still rewarding. I found myself coming there and playing for a few minutes now and then during my regular farming runs. Not because of XP, but just because I like it. Excellent addition to my favorite skill. Great way to get white berry and poison ivy seeds too.

Educational Runescape? - New article in Global Runescape Herald about educational benefits of the game. While I agree with some of the points there, I still think that educational value of Runescape (similar to other online RPGs) is low. There are multitude of more efficient ways to get educated, lets not lie to ourselves. First and foremost Runescape is a fun game to play with social element and interactive environment. Educational aspects are a nice bonus, but hardly important or decisive.

Oo'glog's Pools and Spa - I finally did the quest and started to use the Oo'glog's pools. What can I say? The quest was rather dull if you ask me, though I enjoyed the riddle, but the pools are convenient. Especially the "unlimited energy" one. I am going to use it from now on for my Farming and Clue hunting runs. However, I realized that I still consume my energy pots from time to time. Despite players complaining about oversimplification of several skills caused by these pools, I personally don't see things in such a dramatic way. However, I would still encourage you to take a look at Qeltar's article about the potential issues caused by the Oo'glog's pools.

Runescape Player Mods - Found this post today. Ouch... There is some controversy in there, so to set things straight from the beginning: I respect player mods and I am very grateful for what they are doing to the Runescape community. I've never wanted to become a player mod in Runescape myself. I am doing my volunteering at Runewise and IRL - becoming a player mod would be simply too much for me. But back to the article. I've always taken the Runescape PMods program rules for granted. It is what it is, end of discussion. But I've seen players complaining about PMods not being able to make an impact to the game and I've also seen PMods responding that they don't really have power to fix anything. Now this article gives a good explanation why Jagex would restrict the PMods program so much. In any case, worth reading.

Shooting Fish in a Barrel. "Experience farming" issue. - Yet another excellent article from Qeltar. This time published on Tip.it. It raises an issue about high level players farming combat experience on low level monsters. You all know about rock crabs, hill giants and experiments for sure. Those are just a few examples. I agree with the article that the current system does not encourage high level players to fight difficult monsters and often leads to situation when lower levels have hard time training because "all rock crabs are taken at the moment". I am somewhat guilty myself by not fighting dragons or bosses as much as my combat would indicate. Two solutions proposed by Qeltar are also very valid in my opinion: areas for low levels only would be a quick and easy fix, while restructuring of the experience gaining system would be a good long term move. I remember playing a few old text based MMORPGs where players would get less exp for killing the same monsters after the player's level has increased. And it worked just fine. I wouldn't mind at all to see something like that implemented in Runescape.

Keeping Gilded Altars opened? - I have never used gilded altar myself, so never actually thought about the impact trade limitations can bring to this area. Take a look at Merch Gwyar's post about why so few altars are opened nowadays. I don't know how to help the situation. Death in Runescape - Interesting comparison of death penalties in popular MMORPGs including Runescape. I am personally fine with the current system. Death is death after all and shouldn't be taken lightly by players. The impact of death was somewhat lessened by gravestones, but still the event is highly undesirable, which is good. It wasn't just Summoning, you know... - The Summoning is there, but it is not what I'd like to talk about yet. Let it settle down a bit, plus Summoning re-balancing is coming right at us. I will only say, that I like the skill, I like that it is slow and expensive to train and I like that it cannon be power-leveled! It'll be like Farming for me: get some occasional charms from monsters, make a few pouches, find interesting ways to exploit the summoned creatures abilities. It sounds like total fun! Anyway, what I really wanted to talk about today is another update that came out the same day: update to the Runescape interface. This one is totally awesome. I could describe it in details, but better take a look at Teacuptime's blog post about it. I just couldn't agree more.

OMG Girlz Don’t Exist on teh Intarweb!!!!1 - Thanks to Jamie for the link to this article. It is indeed a sad reality of online MMORPGs, Runescape including. My take on it is somewhat similar to the position of the guild's master mentioned in the article: there is nothing wrong with being a girl and playing a MMORPG, moreover, girls should not hide their identity, instead, guys need to get used to the idea of women being equal partners in all activities (including their "sacred" MMORPGs).

How to by-pass the unbalanced trades limitation - Don't take me wrong, I am not looking for a loophole for the gold selling sites. However, 3-30K limitation is quite severe and there are legitimate ways to sidestep it when trading with your friends. Take a look at Merch Gwyar's note about it. To add to this approach I also suggest to use Kegs of Chef's Delight beer. Each keg costs 60K in the General Exchange. A few days of brewing and you and your friends can exchange quite expensive items.

Interview with a Runescape fan site developer and owner - Take a look at the interview with Aliensvortex, the owner and developer of the Global RuneScape fan site. I find it surprising - this is the only such interview I know about. People take interviews from great skillers, pkers, duelers, but not from PHP developers, who actually make the pages appear, tools work and content flow :-)

Not only Summoning coming to Runescape in January - Yes, Summoning is a much anticipated new skill, but I am actually more exited to know that useful changes to the Grand Exchange, Pking minigames and possibly Gifts/Loans system are coming as well. I am also very pleased with the fact that Jagex seems to be changing their attitude towards the Runescape community and becoming a bit more open. I mean, look at the Word About Our Updates news! Have you seen anything like that before? I don't remember such occasions and this is definitely good news. The news article hints about the coming updates, but there is also another evidence which is much more detailed. Take a look at Jagex Mod Mark message (it is somewhere on RS forums too, but I found it through TruthScape forum). I am really optimistic about Runescape future after it.

Runescape Gold Selling sites are adapting too - Or maybe panicking? Take a look at the whole flurry of new cheating methods now being offered by these sites. Marlaine and Primefalcon made a pretty comprehensive research there. In general what is being offered now is accounts powerleveling (including earning cash) and accounts for sale. Frankly, I can't imagine that any player in a right mind would decide to share his/her account name/password with a cheat site for powerleveling. It's just beyond me. Not only you would risk a ban from Jagex, but you would also allow these cheat sites to use your account for whatever money laundering schemes they may come up with. Accounts for sale will remain, of course. They were there before and, I guess, there will be more of it. But I don't see many players being tempted to engage in these activities. In any case all these methods would comprise only a small fraction on what was going on with gold selling before the updates. Plus, bots are obsolete now, which is a breather. All in all, the cheating won't completely go away, but it seems that gold sellers and gold farmers may really consider going into another game and leave Runescape be.

Grand Exchange and surviving the market crash - Very detailed analysis of the recent market crash at Runescape and Grand Exchange role in it from TruthScape. Good point there about Grand Exchange only revealing the otherwise hidden problem with accumulation of skilling end-products. The article also gives a few practical advices how to benefit in the current situation. Many players blame Grand Exchange with the unprecedented prices drop, I agree with the article, the blame is un-justified. GE is an efficient marketplace (at least much more efficient that we used to have) and its efficiency simply accelerated the processes which already existed in the game. I also agree, that Jagex could have done a better job of quieting the panic which worsen the situation. Anyway, the sky did not fell over, the market is stabilizing, there are great opportunities to make money now, it's just a bit harsh for many players. C'est la vie.

Gravestones in Runescape and Taming Wilderness - Interesting speculation on the coming updates. I actually tend to agree with these predictions - they look very reasonable. And, yes, change to the Wilderness is long due. Note, that taming Wilderness would not only fix a loophole for RWT, but also would be yet another step to make the game more appropriate to the younger audience, which is what we really have in the game despite 13+ requirement.

More concerns regarding the Grand Exchange - Some valid concerns from Teacuptime. I agree, many prices need 'jump' adjustments. I confirm selling in chunks too - it is exactly what happens with my dueling rings out there. By the way I made several millions out of them (emeralds are dirt cheap in the Exchange now, while rings are still 3K each). I am not sure about the way prices are adjusted though - I still think that one player can't move the market and that Jagex is looking for a majority of the sales to adjust the price. But I can't prove it and anyway right now a lot of people are selling for lowest price all the time. It should stop and somewhat reverse at some point.

What’s your final goal in Runescape? - Now, I really enjoyed this article from Tip.it. Especially the part about real life. It is exactly what I believe in too: your life is only as good as you allow yourself to perceive it. Two people can do the same thing and one will be happy while another may be depressed. Everything is inside our heads - we either allow ourselves to be happy or we don't. And it does not matter what we do, who we are or how many hardships we go through. If you want to be happy - THINK happy, DO BE happy.

Pyramid Plundering - I am long term advocate of Pyramid Plundering being the fastest way to raise Thieving. I personally started doing it from lvl 65 or so and ended up with the cape. There are different ways to plunder the pyramid. Some people just run through it over and over again and drop their loot, others visit a bank which is available after the Contact quest. Both methods are valid, but not optimal. If you are interested in the most optimal method take a look at the new YouTube video I made.

Survival in Wilderness - Another guide about survival in Wilderness. This time from Sal's. The guide is very informative, but two things I found there made me uneasy: 1. Advice to use low level scout accounts. I just never thought about it. Yeah, it kind of make sense, but isn't it against the rules to multi-account like that? Also it does not sound ethical to me... 2. Advice to bring a rune scimitar with you when mining rune ore. Nothing wrong with the advice. But the given reason is 'This is not to attack Pkers, but instead to attempt to kill any Rune miners that are of a lower level. Picking up the occasional inventory of Rune is always a welcome surprise'. How hypocritical is that, huh? Anyway, a rood read, some interesting ideas, tips and routes.

Rumors in Runescape - Steve's note about a false rumor regarding the way magic dart works at Barrows triggered this post. It is amazing how these nasty things get easily replicated in an online game. Yet another proof of Runescape being indeed very close to an alternate reality. A few other false rumors I've seen/heard recently: 1. The rumor about shooting cannon in Barbarian Assault supposedly reducing team points 2. The rumor about Ring of Wealth not helping with Dragon drops 3. The rumor about having Slayer Gem in an inventory supposedly causing slayer monsters to give you more damage I am sure there are more circulation out there. Making money with Dwarf Cannon - About a month ago I found a way to make money using Dwarf Cannon, liked it very much and ended up buying and using 17K cannon balls on it. Pure profit was way above 3M gp and, of course , along the way I got tons of Ranged exp (plus Att/Str/Def, Prayer and Magic). The idea was to cannon Ice Trolls on the Fremennik Isles. A few friends of mine tried this way too but had troubles finding a good spot, so I made a video and placed it on YouTube. Enjoy. P.S. The video is narrated, please, excuse my accent...

Surviving the Wilderness - What are the best ways to survive the wilderness while doing lvl 3 clues? Take a look. I personally use #1 over there with an exception of not running, but walking most of the time, so I have energy and could run away if I need to. I am also choosing an empty world and avoiding PK areas, which helps a lot. Either way, good luck out there!

RuneScape Exposed Part 2: Jagex Fiddles While RuneScape Burns - This is the second part of the Runescape Exposed article. I am warning you upfront it is extremely anti-Jagex. I do believe though it is worth reading for several reasons: 1. There are indeed some flaws in the game and the way it is handled. No point in closing eyes on it. 2. It is interesting and encouraging how Jagex really made steps to eliminate many of the issues pointed out in this article. A reader has to admit a lot was done in last 4-5 month. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if Jagex saw this particular article and used its content to improve the game.

Life as a high level player - Life of a high level player may be still difficult. And I am not talking about Zezima and other highscores top players. Just regular (hmm, sounds kind of awkward) 125-126 combat players. Similar to the pains of achievement cape owners Kuemper was talking about, high level players face issued created by stereotypes and pre-justice.

If you are into Runescape history or dying to know more about the game owner and creator, you'll find it interesting. A lot of staff is in there, I am not going to feature anything in particular, see for yourself. Some may even say this is more a celebrity type of site and bordering with stalking. And they might be right by the way. But the site is there and, I am sure, there is a demand for this kind of information.

External APIs for Runescape? Please… - My article or rather a wish list for additional programmatic access to some of the Runescape data. I hope one day Jagex will rethink their position regarding fan sites and at least some of the APIs will get implemented and opened. And, yes, I understand, that Jagex does not owe anything to the fan sites, but I do believe that better results for everyone can be achieved using cooperation and openness rather than disdain and closeness.

I like to think about Runewise as a service-oriented site but at the same time we do offer personalized advice to the players, so advice site is also an applicable name. 10 rules on how to make money with Slayer - Too many 'how to make money' posts I guess, but anyway... I like the advices Anubis is giving in his 10 Slayer rules. I especially want to emphasize a tip about bringing nature runes and fire staff with you on assignments to high alch drops. Steel, black, mithril, adamant and sometime even rune drops can and should be high alched on a spot.

New way to make cash in Runescape with Ranged - Interesting find on making money with Ranged in the God Wars dungeon. I'm definitely going to exploit this one. 70 Ranged and 63 Slayer are required, but the rewards sound very good.

Check out this interview with Zzzamorak from R!Informer for some answers. Things they do... amazing... even weird. Imagine getting to 50 Slayer without ever raising your combat, huh? Karamjian Musings - Sometimes the world seems so weird and strange. I mean we walk, work, eat, sleep, talk, we read and write, live, we flow down, down that river. Then suddenly there is branch curling around a fellow tree, a leaf stuck in a spiderweb, an island disappearing in the darkening water. Why? How come I see it only now? Runescape is no different if you think about it. Less rich but no different. Open your eyes and look around, actually see it beyond skill stats and little numbers in high scores.
